How many work and/or provide income to support the household?
Student lives with father and his young girlfriend. Dad works long hours as a manager at Burger King. Liam's mother is currently homeless, and comes to Dad's house to help take care of the kids after school until the girlfriend gets home. Liam's mother (Kristianne Broadwell) is the one who makes arrangements for medical care and other appointments. She will be the one to contact about this application. (phone # 603-443-3564) According to Kristianne, their family dissolved due to domestic violence. Liam will talk about this fact, and says dad is not physically aggressive any longer but he can still be volatile emotionally. Because of dad's work schedule, a lot of the household/childcare responsibilities fall on the father's young girlfriend.

Personality / Social Standing:
Liam is a likeable young man. He is more of a follower than a leader, so it has been important to make sure he has positive role models surrounding him. He can easily get pulled into making poor decisions.
Liam responds favorably to adult attention. He wants to please-but again, his health impairment (ADHD) and life experience have put him at a disadvantage. I was truly impressed last week when he told me me how much racism bothers him. He shared that his father and girlfriend are racists and it makes him uncomfortable. He told me, "All people are the same no matter what color their skin is." To me this shows his depth of character, as well as the amount of compassion he has for others. His teacher has noted this about him as well.
Liam struggles with impulsivity. We have not seem him intentionally try to hurt others. He wants to do the right thing, but can make poor decisions in the moment that get him into trouble. Liam can usually see his poor choices in hindsight, and doesn't blame others. He can own his mistakes. Liam knows he struggles emotionally and can talk about it. We have encouraged the family to seek therapy for him, but they have yet to follow through.
Liam is the perfect candidate for Mayhew. He will thrive in an enriching environment with positive role models. A true break from his daily circumstances has the potential to be life-changing for him. As difficult as his home situation is-this young man wants/craves love and to learn a better way to be in the world. He needs a chance to see all the possibilities that are open to him outside of the life he has lived so far.
