Household Situation:

I don't know a great deal except parents were not able to take care of Cam or siblings and he was placed with his aunt. He came to us difficult to understand and not reading. He sometimes sees family members. His aunt works at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Personality / Social Standing:

Cam is a cute and funny biracial boy. He has a great smile and is really charming when he is in a cooperative and positive space. He also can really shut down, walk away or refuse to work. Funny the end of this question is self esteem, as underneath any of the negative- this is usually the hard part.

He has made real gains here. He was often impossible to understand when he started with us last year.....with a mask making it worse. It would frustrate him. He is easy to understand now and his reading has made gains with that, but he is still below grade level and easily frustrated- thus avoidant when it is hard.

Behavioral Patterns:

Cam will shut down, refuse to follow directions, and avoid school expectations. He does not eat well- often seeks goldfish from his case manager and then does not eat most of his school lunch. I think hunger may impact his function at school, too.

Cam can get angry when limits are set. Other times he is upset, but willing to be redirected towards a positive substitute.

He is a nice friend to other students and is kind to younger students.

Remarks:

Cam really needs connections with positive men. He needs to have opportunities to excel that are not connected to education as that is such a struggle for him, and doing the summer challenges at Mayhew would allow him to feel the success that may help his self image and thus his ability to persist more when the school work is hard.

Cam was my first choice this year, but I am putting him in second because he is just under the age cut off and it was recommended by Ben Sink to put in an alternate.
