Mayhew boys receive full scholarships to participate.  Their cost is the commitment they must make and a meager $10 enrollment fee.  To support them, we have a great deal of money to raise and are fortunate to have many loyal and generous donors.

Support for Mayhew derives from seven NH United Ways; Merrimack County, Greater Manchester, Monadnock, Lakes Region, Greater Seacoast, Upper Valley, and North Country.  The other contributions are derived from an annual appeal to individuals, foundations, businesses, and service clubs.  We do not have exclusive development staff and do not engage in fund raising activities outside of generating interest in the program from individuals and organizations.  Our funding comes directly from people who know our mission and lend a hand through their financial support.

We have a very active Board of Trustees, who participate 100% in our Annual Fund.  Furthermore, the Mayhew Trustees show extraordinary leadership in our financial development.  They completed the Capital Campaign for the Base House in 1998 and continuously help attract additional endowment funds for the future of our program.

We will continue to try to raise endowment funds to help ensure the strength of the program in the future.  Our goal is to raise enough financial support through the endowment to preclude hiring specific development personnel.  Instead, we want to keep our focus on lifting up the boys, and not on raising capital.

The endowment fully supports a Capital Improvement Plan ($10,356), allocates $14,509 for alumni college expenses, and contributes $99,417 to the general operating budget.  Growing the endowment remains a major focus of our fund-raising.  Combined, the endowment was worth $2,998,417 million at the close of 2004.  In 1999, we established regional endowment funds in the Monadnock and Upper Valley areas and reached our goal of $90,000 in the Seacoast.

                                                   Geographic areas we serve

The Mayhew Program is available to boys from New Hampshire.  The number of boys from each community is based on the support we receive from that community.  Most of our boys thus come from the seven United Way areas where we are a partner agency.  Below is a projection for the distribution of boys in the 2004-2005 program year.  The numbers in 2006 will not vary significantly.
