As a part of the Groton School camp for two decades, Jack became associated with Mayhew as it took over Mayhew's Island in 1969, the former home of GSC. He served as one of the original trustees of
the program and has been a part of Mayhew ever since. After a short career as an Air Force pilot, a great experience for Jack, he had nearly 40 extremely satisfying years as a history teacher at Phillips
Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. This position allowed him to channel a number of students to Mayhew as staff members--even one student, Al Cantor, who went on to serve as director for the program! |

"In 1985, as a college student not wanting to leave New Hampshire for a summer job of commuting from New Jersey to New York City, I took a chance to work as a counselor at Mayhew--not realizing how much an
impact it would have on my life. Aside from introducing me to my wife, Jennifer Shackett, Mayhew taught me to be a great parent and to make the most of the opportunities that life had to offer." |

I have been married for 32 years and have three grown kids and two West Highland Terriers. I play team
tennis and am a hot air balloon pilot. The most exciting place I've ever flown has been over the small villages in Eastern France. The scariest flight I ever had was also in France on the day of the total solar eclipse
when I got caught in a surprise rain storm. When we landed it was like being in Munchkinland...the villagers had never had a balloon land in their town and they carefully emerged from their homes with blankets and
coffee. It even made the local paper! REMEMBER: shot for the moon...even if you miss you'll be among the stars! |
