I was first introduced to Mayhew in 1995 when Jim Nute came to my home for an interview (very similar to the
ones that still happen every Spring). Though I was excited and hopeful that I would have the opportunity to learn more about Mayhew first hand I had no idea that this would be the start of such a tremendous
experience!! When I stepped onto Mayhew Island I was amazed, nervous, scared, excited and much more but I didn't expect that 12 years later I would be stepping onto the same Island summer after summer. My first cabin group was the Volunteers and when I returned for
my second summer it was as a member of Those Guys (with none other than Ed Thompson as a cabin counselor). In 1997 I started my time as "a Link" and also began going to Camp Pasquaney
(Mayhew's friends down the lake). Though I only attended a single Link-Up summer I greatly enjoyed being involved throughout the Community year! In 2002, after four years as a
camper at Pasquaney and one summer in the kitchen I went back to spending the summer months on Mayhew Island as a rowing, relief and cabin counselor. This summer I was able to enjoy an
entire summer of Link-Up trips with many truly amazing Links. One morning during the summer of 2006 John Lynch and Jim Nute pulled me aside to offer me a year-round position. Though exploding
with excitement I attempted to hold out on giving them a definite answer (though I don't think I made it through the day). That Fall I began hanging out with boys and Links in the Lakes and Newfound Region. I feel very fortunate
to have met and gotten to know all of the amazing people that Mayhew has connected me to!
I was born in Lowell, MA and lived in Ashby, Sterling and
Ayer before moving to Concord in 1994 where I lived until March of 2007. In March my fiancé and I moved to Loudon to live with my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. It's been great
being so close to them especially as we welcomed our daughter, Emma Jean, into our lives on November 8th!!! Fatherhood has been a true joy and is difficult to express in words. |
